Hello again,

Today I had the pleasure of partaking in a virtual reality workshop in the McPherson Library at the University of Victoria and an augmented reality workshop with Rich McCue.

Virtual reality is really fun and interactive. It is a great way to bring learning and fun into the classroom. I was able to make some art in the virtual world and it can be saved onto the computer so that it may be viewed/displayed later. This would be great for Intermediate and/or secondary-school art classes.

Augmented reality is another interactive way to use technology to teach. Abigail Holmes has a blog on ways to use augmented reality. They have a bunch of videos on the blog post that relate to teaching augmented reality in elementary/intermediate schools. Augmented reality can be used to teach all subjects. Here is a video on teaching history and social studies using augmented reality:

Another important video that we watched today but has nothing to do with virtual or augmented reality is about the importance of talking circles at the beginning of the day to check-in with students.

Till next time,

Preston Forry
